No No Daddy....

I asked Steve to watch the pole so I could pay the bills. Things were pretty quiet, so I decided to go and check on them. This is what I found:

Inchworm

I thought I was going a little nuts, but thankfully I overheard Steve this morning expressing the same disbelief I have had all week.

Our pole has become an inchworm in his crib. I am POSITIVE that I put the boy in the center of the crib each night. Sometime between 1-3pm, I hear the hunger cries and go to get him. Without a doubt, the kid has inched his way to the to the top corner of the crib. His favorite position is to put both feet on the top of his crib, and to shove a hand through the slots. I have already mentally prepared myself that at some point, we are going to have to cut a slot of out his crib to remove his chubby little arm which will be stuck.

He seems to favor inching on his left side. I have even tried to put him closer to the right side of the crib, so that maybe he would only inch over to the middle. Nope. The kid inches all the way back over to the left, and throws his feet on the top rail.

Can you imagine whats going to happen when he's older and can actually have a little blanket in his bed? He will have his feet in the air, and a blanket over his face.

Weirdo!

Public Service Annoucement

The pole thought it was his civic duty to speak out against eating disorders. He has a pretty limited vocabulary, so he chose to express his opinion through pictures....

If you choose to stick a finger down your throat:

You will end up like this:

Foot Head or The Pope?

Every day during Dr. Seuss week, the teachers planned a special craft/story time for the kids. On his actual birthday, they created hats. When I went to pick up the pole, the teachers were dying laughing. The put the hat on his head and said they that the pole looked like a mini-pope. My immediate thought was "my son looks like a foot head". I brought the hat home and showed steve....he agreed with foot head.

The past week has been an exciting one for the woj household. I'm not sure why we decided to cram so many items in....especially when we lost an hour to day light savings! The quick summary: the pole can use his hands to grab stuff; he has been officially cut off of boob; he is on 1/2 jar of solids per day; he likes to smother himself when he sleeps (but only for naps); we had our first "playgroup"; he has doubled his food intake at morning and night. Oh! My shower has also been ripped completely apart. (Please note - we live in a small bungalow with only 1 bathroom). Details below:

Last Monday, the pole discovered his hand. He has been able to stuff his hand in his mouth for a good old fist sandwich since the day he was born. But Monday, things changed. He could grab stuff! I have no idea how this happened overnight, but its exciting. Its alot more fun to play with him now that he participates in the whacking and grabbing of objects.

This past weekend was the official cutoff from breastfeeding. It was great while it lasted...but its been incredibly difficult to maintain now that I'm back at work. Actually, I think I should blame the poles appetite, not work. It is impossible for me to pump 30 ounces during the day to keep his big belly full at daycare. I was a little bummed about it, but so far so good except for the pain on my side.

As a consolation prize for the lack of boob, we have ramped up on solids. Sweet potatoes worked out well. And this weekend we tried carrots. Straight carrots from the jar were not a hit (too cold maybe?). I microwaved them for 10secs and they were steaming hot, so I cooled them off with a little formula from the fridge. And thats how carrot soup was born! The pole is a big fan of his new creamy treat. I sent a little bowl of carrot soup for lunch today...hopefully he still likes it.

On Saturday, we had our first playgroup. It was organized by the local family association in our town. The first 1/2 hour or so was spent singing, and the pole is a huge fan of that. He was a little ticked b/c at group, I wasn't quite as animated singing as I am at home. Its hard to use your "theatre" voice when you are in front of people who are old enough to know it sucks. After singing, we put him on a bouncy rocking horse which was a huge hit. Later that day when we got home, we put him in a seat that hangs from the ceiling and bounces. He loved it. Who knew the kid would love to be bounced and thrown around?

We also learned (from his teacher) that he will only take a nap when there is a blanket beside (or on) his face. If there was any doubt in Steve's mind that the pole was his, it has been completely erased by the knowledge of his sons sleeping habits. I always make fun of Steve for sleeping with a blanket over his head. Who knew my son would pick up this bizarre habit?? Anyway, we have always had trouble getting him to take a few naps on the weekends. The only thing that seemed to work was a boob snack, and then instant sleep. This weekend we were able to get him to take 2 naps per day by putting him on our bed with a blanket beside his face (which he promptly moved to cover his face....oye!).

Going back to food, my little butterball typically eats ~6oz in each of his bottles. Yesterday, he consumed almost double that for his 7am and 7pm bottles. How do you go from 7 to 11ounces in 1 day??? I hope he likes bologna...thats all we are going to be able to afford once he's older!

Finally....my bathroom is in shambles. My husband was going to redo the shower tile while I was in Florida with the kid. Last week, he "accidentally" bumped the shower wall with his knee...and it caved it. (I like to think he was bored and pushed it in). Regardless, this weekend his dad came over and ripped the tile out of the shower. It is now in the process of "drying". It looks like I live in some type of dirty old cabin in the woods of Maine. Steve was nice enough to hang plastic so that I can shower for work. This coming Saturday they have decided that they will replace the toilet. I will be heading to Amy's house to hang out and use her facilities. Let me be the first to say that I will NOT be a happy camper if I have no toilet when I return at night.

4 month Dr Update

The pole weighs 19lbs, 5oz and measures 26inches long. Last week he discovered the use of his hands, and its gripping everything in site. The Dr said there are no teeth, but he keeps shoving everything in his mouth and gumming it.
We are starting solids. We told the Dr that the pole has not been a huge fan of rice cereal. The Dr said "Of course he doesn't like it. Its cold and mushy. Try some of the level one foods like peaches and pears!". Unfortunately I read that starting with sweet fruits can cause problems when the baby tries veggies, b/c they will not like the stronger flavor. We decided to compromise and start with sweet potatoes. The pole did ok (pics to come) and ended up wearing most of it....but there were no "ugly" faces as with the rice cereal...so that's a good start!
