Like Father, Like Son

Looking over the Architect's contract

Unable to sleep - Dad decides to bring son downstairs to watch Jon Stewart on DVR

Late for work/school because of a late night watching The Daily Show

Safety First

Steve has a huge proposal due 7/6, so I have essentially been a single parent this past week. Thankfully he dealt with the pole this morning and let me catch an extra hour of sleep.

Home Update - Having fun with Dick and Jane!!

We have hired a surveyor and architect (yay)! The surveyor is scheduled to come out this Friday to wrap things up. And we dropped off the check for the architect yesterday. Hopefully we will have our first sit down with her late this week/early next week.

Looking for an architect was alot harder than I expected. I love the one we choose (great price & is willing to meet our schedule). Some of the others were nuts. One guy was a total jerk, and he gave us a quote of $15-18k. For that price, I will go get the freaking degree myself. Another guy blew us off for 2.5wks, and then emailed us on Friday saying that he could see us on Saturday morning, but he might have another obligation. Why don't people understand how important customer service is?

I also really like the surveyor. He has been incredibly responsive. I keep getting quotes from the other slowpoke surveyors, and we clearly made the right choice.

BTW - I kid you not. Our architect is named Jane, and our surveyor is Dick. Like the book said, we are having "Fun with Dick and Jane!"

Super Flu - pass it on!

Pole has the ability to take a small cold, and turn it into a super flu which he is more than happy to share. He had a slightly better day at school yesterday. He had another restful night in his carseat...and today he seems to be doing pretty well. I dropped him off at school and he was happily whacking another kid in the head with his orange maraca.

I managed to catch pole's cold yesterday, which managed to turn itself into a 12hr superflu. I went to bed freezing, and woke up around midnight with a 102 fever. This morning I am as good as new (except for a slightly sore throat).

Hopefully this will be over soon and we can party this weekend! (Not that we really have anything to do...but it would be nice for everyone to be healthy)

A looooonnnngggg weekend

Pole's sickness continued yesterday afternoon. I got a call ~12:45pm that he had been screaming ever since I left ~10am. :(

I picked him up from school and he seemed pretty happy. That all changed rather quickly once we got home. The poor little guy refused to nap. He would doze off, cough, and then wake up screaming. We repeated this cycle ~200 times. Steve came home around 4 and helped out. We gave him a bath at 6, he drank a bottle, and we thought he might actually go to bed. No such luck.

The pole was crying in his crib, so Steve went in and rubbed his belly. After a few minutes, the pole started coughing and Steve sat him up in the crib. A few seconds later...BLLLAAAHHHHHH. The kid threw up everywhere. It was unbelievable. Thankfully he seemed to feel a little better, and had a good laugh while we tried to remove his yucky pj's and sheet.

We tried to put him in the swing, hoping that he would relax and fall asleep. Instead, he reached backwards and grabbed the swing stand. He started swing himself side to side like an ape.

Finally Steve broke down and brought the big carseat into our bed. Once in the carseat, it only took a few minutes of a head massage before the pole passed out. He actually slept through the night which was really nice.

He seemed a little better this morning, but once he got to school the wheezing kicked in. I ran home and got the gas mask....hopefully a couple of doses will fix him today.

Pole learned a new trick. He makes himself throw up when you try to give him tylenol. Thankfully he is a little piggy....so we mixed it in his fruit and he gobbled it up. (same thing with the antibiotic)

8 months - 27lbs 9.5oz

We had a pretty rough weekend with the pole. Friday night he had a temp of 102F. Saturday he refused to drink from a bottle, and Sunday he remained a cranky pants. This morning I took him to the Dr and he was diagnosed with a double ear infection. :( At least it explains the bad mood swings....the poor little guy has not been himself.

They did a weigh in and we are up to 27lbs 9.5oz. Last night was the first night that the pole slept without his man dress. I bought him 2 new pairs of big boy pj's (with the attached feet). They were a huge hit. I think he liked freedom to squirm around in his crib. This morning I changed his diaper, and kept him in his pjs for an hour or so. We made up a a new song "Pajama Man" (same tune as particle man).

Pajama Man
Pajama Man
Doing the things, a Pajama man can
Wearing his jamies like nobody can
Pajama Man!!!

Happy 1st Father's Day Woj!

I've been planning this for a while, but as usual, I'm a pretty last minute kind of person. This morning I locked the pole, ursa and myself in the poles room for a quick photoshoot. The pics came out alot better than I expected. For Father's Day, Steve got a frame with the following pics:

Steve thought it was funny that the pole went from happy to serious, to mad.
Happy Fathers Day Steve! You are a great husband and dad.
Love - me, the pole and spoo

Pole Updates

This weekend, the pole had his first taste of cheese and yogurt (both were huge hits). He is also munching on cheerio's and puffs daily. Ursa is very excited by his new snack list (especially since she gets about half of it each time). This week we are going to try pasta, peaches and avocado.

His first 2 bottom teeth are now starting to show. He doesn't like to show people, but he is happy to chomp on your finger/elbow/knee/toe if you let him.

We think the pole may have lost a pound or two. He is now able to roll over on his side while he sleeps. He is also standing (although you have to hold his hands).

Home sale is off - we're staying

~24hours before our house was scheduled to go on the market, we decided to cancel it and stay put. We have been to countless open houses over the last year, and we have been unable to find anything with love. Although our house is small, its ours and we do love it. We have decided to begin the process of an addition.

I was toying with the idea of setting up a separate blog to capture the new house process. But lets face facts....I'm a lazy procrastinator. I'm doing good if I remember to post pics of the pole on a semi regular basis. I will try to keep my pole and home posts separate, and I'll make sure I label the home posts in case you want to skip them.

We have completed alot of renovations on our 1920's Bungalow. My husband and his father have handled all the work themselves. It was a LONG 3 year journey to finish our house, and the majority of the decisions were not mine. No biggie....the house came out beautifully and I am incredibly thankful for all of their hard work.

I have decided to take a different roll in the addition....a more PROACTIVE roll in making my house a beautiful functioning home that we can have our kids grow up in.

I am slowly becoming friends with the town building inspector (who has also told me our gigantic shed is non-conforming....but thats another post for a different day). I have multiple surveyors lined up, and I'm currently interviewing architects. This morning I met the head of DPW (Dept of Public Works) and had him explain to me what a "Tie Card" is. I learned that our water line is marked but our sewer line is not. Oye.

This should be a fun process, and I will share it with all of you.

Learning to Share

Steve had an early meeting this morning, so I ended up dropping the pole off at school. Miss R was there with 2 babies in their carseats, and a little girl named Chloe was sitting quietly in the pit. (I'm not really sure if its called the pit, but that seems to be its function. Its actually looks like it should be stuffed full of balls).

As soon as you bring the pole into the classroom, he reaches out both of his arms towards the pit. I sat him down across from Chloe, and gave each of them a maraca to play with. I put away his things, gave him a kiss, and left. I was standing outside the room putting on my shoes and decided to take one more goodbye glance before I went to work.

I saw the pole reach across the pit and take Chloe's maraca. The little turkey waited until I was out of the room and then snatched her toy. Chloe had the smarts to immediately reach over and pull the pacifier right out of the poles mouth. They had a 5 second stare off and then started laughing at each other. Poor Miss Rian had just started feeding a baby, and I could see her saying "No! No!" while they laughed at her. I snuck away just as she was getting up to deal with the two jokers.
